Plant Communities: An underestimated Urban health "Essential need"

With the development of modern cities, the number of buildings in urban areas continues to increase. Indoor environments have become isolated from outdoor plant communities, and plant communities are rarely found indoors. However, plant communities share an inseparable relationship with human health, manifesting in multiple physical and mental aspects.

Plants are natural air purifiers. We often underestimate the capacity of plant communities to purify air. Through photosynthesis, plants absorb carbon dioxide and release oxygen while effectively removing harmful substances such as formaldehyde, benzene, and trichloroethylene from the air. Long-term exposure to formaldehyde-rich environments can easily induce respiratory diseases, allergies, fatigue, and even cancer, while high concentrations of CO₂ can lead to respiratory acidosis.

Compared with individual plants, plant communities form a more efficient air purification system. Constructing plant communities indoors is akin to installing a "natural air purifier" within an indoor space.

In air-conditioned rooms or during dry seasons, plants release moisture through transpiration, naturally increasing indoor air humidity, alleviating throat discomfort, dry and cracked skin caused by dryness, and even reducing the transmission of viruses in dry air.

In the concrete jungles of modern cities, we are often troubled by anxiety, stress, and fatigue. Yet, an ancient and natural healing power grows quietly beside us — namely, plant communities. Plants possess the ability to soothe human psychological and emotional states. The feelings of pleasure, peace, confidence, and relaxation experienced during human-plant interactions can achieve therapeutic effects.

Humans have an innate affinity for biological environments such as plants. Connecting with the natural world satisfies the deep-seated human longing for biodiversity and helps us re-establish a connection with the rhythms of nature.

The natural environment created by plant communities can help enhance attention and contribute to improved cognitive ability, comfort, creativity, short-term memory, and accuracy, thereby increasing the duration of gazing at green plants, enabling individuals to return to a state of optimal work performance more quickly upon resuming tasks.

Therefore, we need to reintroduce plant communities into our lives. This is not for the purpose of escaping the world, but rather for encountering the world in a healthier and more balanced way.

We are willing to build this bridge to nature for you, creating a miniature "forest" indoors even within cities made of steel and concrete.
